If you are applying for a Canada Spouse Visa (Open Work Permit) or accompanying your partner on a study visa, there’s an important update you must know! ?
From September 1, 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has introduced new minimum financial support requirements for applicants. This means you must show sufficient funds to cover living expenses, apart from tuition fees (if the main applicant is a student).
Updated Minimum Funds Required (All Provinces/Territories Except Quebec)
The financial requirement depends on the number of family members (including the main applicant + spouse + children):
Example:
If you are going to Canada with your spouse, you must show CAD $28,502 as financial proof.
If you are going with your spouse and 1 child, you must show CAD $35,040.
What Does This Means for Spouse Visa Applicants?
Applicants must prepare bank balance, GIC, savings, or sponsor documents to prove funds.
If you are applying before September 1, 2025, old rules will apply.
From September 2025 onwards, these new amounts are compulsory for approval.
